Wit, courage, and grace — this clever cat proves that true power lies in imagination and heart.

Story Origin and Inspiration

Puss in Boots (Le Maître Chat, ou Le Chat Botté) was first published in 1697 by Charles Perrault (1628–1703) in his famous collection Histoires ou contes du temps passé (Tales of Mother Goose).  The tale tells of a clever cat who uses wit, trickery, and charisma to elevate his poor master to nobility, eventually securing wealth, power, and a royal marriage.  Perrault’s version was the one that established Puss in Boots as part of the European fairy tale canon, though earlier oral versions and Italian variants (notably by Giovanni Francesco Straparola in 1550 and Giambattista Basile in 1634) influenced the final tale.  In the 18th and 19th centuries, the story was widely translated and became especially popular in England and Germany, with lavish illustrations that highlighted the cat’s dashing attire and courtly cleverness.  Over time, Puss in Boots became a universal emblem of ingenuity, resourcefulness, and the power of intelligence over brute strength — values that resonated with adults and delighted children alike.

This female reinterpretation adds a fresh, empowering twist to this centuries-old fable while staying true to its folk art roots and old-world charm.
